They didn’t see it. We’ve still got to make a stop. And then fumble on the one going in ... We had two of our top guys get hurt in the second quarter, and without those guys who have been so important for us all season, kind of threw our chemistry off on offense, a little bit,” Adams coach Tony Patritto said. “We didn’t make plays in second half, and they did. And, you know, it happens sometimes.” The Hudsonville Eagles (12-1) will take on Detroit Cass Tech (11-2) in the D1 finals at Ford Field next Saturday. The Technicians beat Detroit Catholic Central, 17-14, in the other D1 semifinal. For Adams (10-3), it was the first loss in seven games, since the Highlanders found themselves 4-2 after back-to-back road losses to Lake Orion and Oxford, by a total of four points, shunting them out of contention for the OAA Red title. The two teams went into halftime tied at 7-7, but it could’ve been a bit different, if a couple of those bounces had gone Adams’ way. Hudsonville ground out a 14-play drive to open the game, but one play before the capper, it appeared the Highlanders had forced a fumble. When the ball stayed with the Eagles, one play later, they punched it in with a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Griffin Baker, the first of four he accounted for on the day. After the Highlanders tied it at 7-7 on a 39-yard pass from Nolan Farris to Tommy Offer, the Highlanders had a chance to go up a score after stopping the Eagles on downs near midfield, with a 30-yard Farris run getting Adams into the red zone. But a fumble the other way gave the ball back to the Eagles on their own 1 — the same spot as the other miscue — and the half ended in a deadlock. Adams turned it over on downs at midfield to open the second half, and the Eagles used the short field to take a 14-7 lead on a 5-yard Baker run. On the final play of the third quarter, Hudsonville linebacker Ethan Carter got in the passing lane and tipped an interception to himself to set up another short field, and a 1-yard Baker TD run, making it 21-7 with 10:26 to play. After another Adams drive stalled on downs with 8:03 to go, Hudsonville took six minutes off the clock before scoring again on a 5-yard pass from Baker to Jack Wills on fourth-and-goal, making it 27-7 with 1:55 to go. The Adams offense spluttered much of the day, getting behind the sticks, and then in long down-and-distance plays, the Eagles would go to a ‘Radar’ defense, with no down linemen, bringing blitzers from all angles. “We saw it on film, watched it, and we felt really good about our game plan against it — and really didn’t cause any problems for us at all, to be perfectly candid. We just had breakdowns in offense in the second half against their regular defense, and that put us in third-and-long where they can do that,” Patritto said. “And then we, you know, clearly, we had some backups in trying to make plays. And I give our kids a credit, they didn’t quit, and our kids really grinded to the end.” Adams was looking for its third title-game appearance, and second in four seasons. This one may have been a bit less expected, though, considering that the Highlanders lost their starting quarterback to injury in that two-game midseason stretch. That’s why Patritto told the Highlanders “I love you to freakin’ death,” in the postgame meeting, after reminding them that they’d more than upheld the standard at Adams. “We’re picked to take second-to-last in our league. We don’t have any four- or five-stars. Our quarterback (Ryland Watters) goes down in the middle of the season. He’s just an amazing player and next-man-up mentality. But really, ultimately, it’s like no one cares who gets the ball. No one cares who gets the glory. What a pleasure to be around, because it’s so rare in today’s society. So you hit the nail right on the head. I’m so proud to be associated with these kids because they were selfless, and they didn’t care what people thought, and they just did their best to try to win,” Patritto said. “Honestly, that’s kind of the standard here. And I gotta give credit to the kids, the players that come to our program and have just kind of embraced that, and they’re the ones that carry it forward. So they’re all so memorable. TORONTO — Canada's main stock index gained more than 350 points Thursday in a broad rally led by energy and technology stocks, while U.S. markets also rose, led by a one-per-cent gain on the Dow. No. 11 Tennessee crushes UTEP to enhance CFP chancesPossibly the only thing that has been the butt of more jokes this season than Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys themselves, is their home field, AT&T Stadium. The venue has risen to prominence on more than one occasion this year, and never for good reasons. On Friday, sports video Instagram account “Hurdles” posted a screenshot of a tweet by Mike Kadlick with a beautiful landscape photo of Tom Brady being bathed in heavenly sun rays while playing at AT&T Stadium when he was still with the New England Patriots. Kadlick’s caption was: “The reason why Jerry won’t put up the curtains.” Brady saw the post and simply couldn’t help himself. He had to pile onto Jones and his stadium with a clever little comment: When a softball is lofted up to a former baseball player like Brady, it’s hard to resist the urge to hit it out of the park. So he didn’t. It was yet another example of Brady sounding more comfortable and natural when he’s anywhere but the Fox broadcasting booth, and the low-hanging fruit of Jones’ stadium certainly helped. Jerry Jones’ stadium has been a national pariah this season Jerry Jones built AT&T Stadium as a cathedral to entertainment in the mid-2000s, with the stadium opening for good in 2009. It is by far the largest stadium in the NFL, with the possibility of expanding the seating capacity to 100,000. And it cost about $1.5 billion to build, making it one of the most expensive sports venues of all time. No wonder people have taken to calling it “Jerry World” or “The Death Star”. The controversies began this year when the sun shining through those massive windows seemingly blinded Cowboys wideout CeeDee Lamb , who blamed the glare for not being able to haul in what should’ve been an easy TD. However, he later walked those comments back. Jones leaped to his stadium’s defense, however, giving us his best meteorologist and astronomer impressions in the process. He argued that the positioning of the sun was known to them and that they viewed it as a sort of home-field advantage. When suggestions were made to use blackout curtains during games, Jones shot down the idea vehemently. Even though several non-Cowboys events held at the stadium, including WrestleMania and Paul vs. Tyson, have used the blackout curtains for that very purpose. Most recently, as Jones was attempting to show off his stadium’s retractable roof, a large piece of sheet metal fell to the field. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but to be safe, they closed the roof once again just 35 minutes later. Jones, as usual, was not worried about any of the perceived shortcomings regarding Jerry World. Unfortunately for Jones, he seems to be alone on this, as most would prefer to find clever ways to make jokes about his stadium than listen to his rationalizations. It would be one thing if the stadium was in shambles while the team was still winning. But at 3-7, the Cowboys aren’t creating any positive distractions on the gridiron right now. They will look to ride Cooper Rush to a victory this week against the division-rival Washington Commanders.

Rarely does a college basketball game provide such stark contrast between the sport's haves and have-nots as when Jackson State faces No. 9 Kentucky on Friday in Lexington, Ky. While Kentucky claims eight NCAA Tournament crowns and the most wins in college basketball history, Jackson State has never won an NCAA Tournament game and enters the matchup looking for its first win of the season. Impressive tradition and current record aside, Kentucky (4-0) returned no scholarship players from last season's team that was knocked off by Oakland in the NCAA Tournament. New coach Mark Pope and his essentially all-new Wildcats are off to a promising start. Through four games, Kentucky is averaging 94.3 points per game, and with 11.5 3-pointers made per game, the team is on pace to set a school record from long distance. The Wildcats boast six double-figure scorers with transfer guards Otega Oweh (from Oklahoma, 15.0 ppg) and Koby Brea (from Dayton, 14.5 ppg) leading the team. The Wildcats defeated Duke 77-72 on Nov. 12 but showed few signs of an emotional letdown in Tuesday's 97-68 win over a Lipscomb team picked to win the Atlantic Sun Conference in the preseason. Kentucky drained a dozen 3-pointers while outrebounding their visitors 43-28. Guard Jaxson Robinson, held to a single point by Duke, dropped 20 points to lead the Kentucky attack. White died in late December 2021 , less than three weeks before her 100th birthday. The Postal Service hasn't announced a release date for the stamp. It announced on the 26th that it has signed a construction contract for three ships. Ships will be delivered to ship owners sequentially by December 2027. Including this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries recorded a cumulative order of about 7.3 billion dollars (36 vessels in total) this year. This represents 75% of the $9.7 billion annual target. Among them, eco-friendly fuel ships such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), ammonia, and ethane account for 86% (31 vessels) of all contracted ships. An official from Samsung Heavy Industries said, “The number of orders for eco-friendly fuel-powered ships to reduce greenhouse gas is steadily increasing,” adding, “As we have strengths in eco-friendly technology development, we will actively respond to changes in the market environment.” In November, Samsung Heavy Industries signed a construction contract worth a total of 1.985 trillion won with ship owners in Asia, including four 16,000 TEU (1 TEU is 1 20-foot container). ABELLO, founder and chief executive officer at Global Miranda Miner Group, is pushing investor education to boost the adoption of cryptocurrencies in the Philippines. “We should orient every Filipino,” he said in an interview. “It is a multi-stakeholder approach. It takes a community to educate someone. I think everyone needs to have a concerted effort on what digital assets are all about.” “We want to have a continuous level of education. We’re telling Filipinos that it doesn’t end with the stock market and mutual funds,” he added. Before his cryptocurrency journey, Mr. Abello was senior director of operations for Telus International, Inc. “I was bored with the Philippine stock market. There’s no volume. Then I said why don’t I dabble into cryptocurrency? There’s volume and liquidity. Volume is the kingmaker on trading setups,” he said. “Cryptocurrency, particularly Bitcoin, is the greatest equalizer between a first-world country and a third-world country. I’m just looking forward to educating people,” he added. Mr. Abello said he wants to remove the stigma of cryptocurrency and help people avoid scams through increased investor education. “I’m seeing slow but steady adoption,” he said. “From an adoption standpoint, we’re slowly getting there. The goal is for Filipino traders to introduce Bitcoin to their families. If I educate one college student, I am confident that the family is already protected against scams.” Mr. Abello said the presence of GCrypto on mobile wallet GCash and local cryptocurrency wallets and exchanges Coins.ph and Philippine Digital Asset Exchange has helped boost crypto adoption in the country. “The infrastructure is already there. Although people don’t believe it, at least they don’t ignore cryptocurrency. From a learning standpoint, awareness is already present,” he said. “Investors need to be financially mature. They need to have emergency funds — six months’ worth of their operating expenses. They need to have insurance before going to speculative assets,” he added. In November, Coins.ph said its trading volume grew more than 10 times year on year with more users after the surge in Bitcoin’s value. Mr. Abello said the Philippines should also have clear regulations on cryptocurrency trading. “We should also have regulatory clarity in the Philippines. At some point, people are still walking on eggshells. It’s like you’re walking on landmines.” “Clear guidelines will help entice more participants into cryptocurrency,” he added. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued draft rules on cryptocurrency providers on Dec. 20. The draft is open for public comment until Jan. 18, 2025. Under the rules, crypto providers must be a SEC-registered stock corporation, have at least four staff members living in the Philippines and meet the minimum capital requirements. Mr. Abello said cryptocurrency adoption is expected to be boosted under US President-elect Donald J. Trump. “I expect over the next 24 to 36 months that more institutions are going to be opening just because the upcoming US president is a proponent of Bitcoin,” he said. “The Philippines usually mirrors the blueprint in the US.” Bitcoin hit a record high above $107,000 on Dec. 17 after Mr. Trump reiterated plans to create a US bitcoin strategic reserve, stoking the enthusiasm of crypto bulls.

The United States Postal Service might have found a way to unite a nation bitterly divided after this month's election: It will release a Betty White stamp. The beloved actor known for roles in "The Golden Girls," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "Boston Legal" and others will be on a 2025 Forever stamp, USPS announced this past week. White died in late December 2021 , less than three weeks before her 100th birthday. The Postal Service hasn't announced a release date for the stamp.
