It was described as one of the best games of the season as Premier League leaders Liverpool drew 3-3 with Newcastle in an enthralling match at St James' Park. The Reds twice trailed and then led thanks to a double from the ever-reliable Mohamed Salah, and looked set to extend their winning run in the league to five games. But Fabian Schar's 90th-minute equaliser earned Newcastle a deserved point at the end of an exhausting encounter. "One of the best [games] I've seen this season," said former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin on BBC Radio 5 Live at full-time. "We have seen it ebb and flow. Both sides will be happy with the point in the end." But they will not be the only sides happy with the draw, with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City - second, third and fourth respectively - all picking up wins on Wednesday. SHOCKING, harrowing, punitive, crisis-driven, complex, fragmented, slow, devoid and not fit-for-purpose. Login or signup to continue reading They are just a few of the describing words that jump out from the pages of the latest system review of out-of-home care. The report is jam-packed with stomach-turning details of how thoroughly and consistently the system is failing children and young people, their carers, families, advocates, taxpayers, and the community at large. Chronic is another word, given the nine other reports delivered in the past 12 months alone detailing many of the same failures and more. In addition to those, many others have consistently called over many years for a greater focus on early intervention and support for families in crisis before children need to be removed. It is easy to get carried away with all of those helicopter-level wrap-ups on the state of play. Beyond those pages are real people living with devastating outcomes. The kids that are not assessed, who may need out-of-home care but do not receive it, are also being let down, due in large part to the mismanagement of funds and contracts and a lack of oversight. Many of them continue to live at risk of significant harm, with families struggling to cope and care for them properly due to a whole host of reasons that many of us would find relatable. And when they are removed, what support then for their families? Or the carers who take them in and try to help but hit brick walls over and over again. There is no room for all of their stories. But I could tell a few. The foster carer who re-oriented her whole life to care for her 'son' who lives with severe Autism. His behaviours were often challenging and complex, and despite being a professional psychologist herself, sometimes went beyond what she could provide. But her repeated requests for respite were denied. When her calls for help were finally answered, rather than taking the boy into a supportive, home-like environment, he was taken to a hotel room, and vaguely supervised by a host of strangers who were untrained and inexperienced. He was sexually assaulted there. Reports about his stay detailed how he had asked to call her - the sole source of stability in his young life - but his requests were also repeatedly denied. She then had to battle to have him returned to her care. What was she being punished for? What was her crime? Another woman caring for children with complex needs found out she was not receiving the level of funding attached to her child. Her repeated requests to find out what that was, let alone receive it, were denied. Another family who, after advocating for their foster child's needs, were de-authorised as carers. The only statistics publicly available on how the system is or isn't working, the DCJ Caseworker Dashboard, have grown steadily worse. At last count, only 17 per cent of the children reported as being at risk of significant harm in the Hunter Central Coast region were seen by a caseworker. While that is not the only avenue of support available to them, DCJ simply does not know whether they engage with other services or not. Often their cases are closed due to completing priorities. Until the next report, or the next one - or indefinitely. That is despite the system, according to this latest review led by former Assistant Commissioner with NSW Police, Gelina Talbot, and former executive director of the Department of Communities and Justice, Lauren Dean, being focused on compliance, numbers, and ticking boxes. The report talks about how DCJ does not have the will or the tools to demand compliance and best practice. In community services land, where many people work hard to ensure accountability and evidence-driven service delivery, the level of under-handedness and lack of governance described in these pages is gob-smacking. The idea that DCJ hasn't, can't or won't do anything about it is worse. The status quo of "limited consequences" must change. As well as making the necessary systemic changes recommended, the NSW Minns Government must ensure that operators who have rorted the system to benefit themselves or their own organisations are held accountable. The 2000 children across the Hunter region who have been stripped from their families in the name of child protection deserve better. The 18,856 children named in 'risk of significant harm' reports in the 12 months to June 2024 deserve better. The 15,634 kids in those reports, whose plight has been brought to the attention of authorities but who never see a case worker, deserve better. The children named in the files that are closed due to competing priorities deserve better. Those kids are robbed of meaningful engagement in part because the caseworkers employed to help them have been underpaid, unsupported, and overworked. Partly because workers have gone across to private providers who pay more. Some of those private providers, we now know, are not doing their job - and worse, some are rorting the system. In the instances where that has occurred, it is not just abhorrent and amoral - it is criminal. And every single instance must be treated as such. NEW DELHI: From the academic year 2026-27, CBSE schools will introduce a 'two-tier' system - standard and basic - for science and social science subjects. This move aligns with the existing dual-level system for mathematics. The Board plans to extend this to other subjects as well, as part of implementation of National Education Policy 2020 . This initiative was recently approved at CBSE's curriculum committee meeting and now awaits final endorsement from governing body. CBSE chairperson Rahul Singh said, "It's part of NEP implementation. NEP envisaged offering the subjects at two levels." He also confirmed that "the offer will available from 2026-27 academic year once NCERT textbooks are out". The system aims to provide flexibility and reduce academic pressure. This structure accommodates varying learning abilities and student interests. Currently, CBSE offers mathematics at two levels - mathematics - standard (advanced) and mathematics - basic (regular). In the 2023-24 Board exams, 15,88,041 students registered for the standard level mathematics, while 6,79,560 opted for the basic level. NCERT has already introduced textbooks aligned with National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE), 2023, for Classes I, II, III and VI. New textbooks for Classes IV, V, VII and VII are under development for implementation in 2025-26 academic session. Students will likely receive a designated period to choose between advanced and standard levels, with flexibility to switch within this timeframe. Singh added, "The exact shape of the framework is yet to be worked out. ​CISA released guidance today to help network defenders harden their systems against attacks coordinated by the Salt Typhoon Chinese threat group that breached multiple major global telecommunications providers earlier this year. The U.S. cybersecurity agency and the FBI confirmed the breaches in late October after reports that Salt Typhoon breached multiple broadband providers , including AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Lumen Technologies. They later revealed the attackers compromised the "private communications" of a "limited number" of government officials, gained access to the U.S. government's wiretapping platform , and stole customer call records and law enforcement request data. Although it's still unknown when the telecom giants' networks were first breached, the Chinese hackers had access "for months or longer," according to a WSJ report , which allowed them to steal vast amounts of "internet traffic from internet service providers that count businesses large and small, and millions of Americans, as their customers." "We cannot say with certainty that the adversary has been evicted, because we still don't know the scope of what they're doing. We're still trying to understand that, along with those partners," a senior CISA official told reporters today in a press call. However, T-Mobile's Chief Security Officer, who said on Wednesday that the attack originated from a connected wireline provider's network, claims the company no longer sees any attackers active within its network. Also tracked as Earth Estries, FamousSparrow, Ghost Emperor, and UNC2286, this threat group has been breaching government entities and telecommunications companies across Southeast Asia since at least 2019. "Vigilance is key" As the NSA said today, the Chinese attackers have targeted exposed and vulnerable services, unpatched devices, and generally under-secured environments. The joint advisory , released in partnership with the FBI, the NSA, and international partners, includes tips on hardening devices and network security to reduce the attack surface exploited by these threat actors. It also includes defensive measures to enhance visibility for system administrators and engineers managing communications infrastructure for more detailed insight into network traffic, data flow, and user activities. Other hardening best practices highlighted in today's advisory include: Network defenders are also advised to configure their systems to log all configuration changes and management connections and alert on any unexpected ones to enhance visibility for edge devices at network perimeters. It is also important to monitor traffic from trusted partners, such as wireline providers, since T-Mobile was breached through a connected wire provider rather than devices exposed on the internet. Amid growing speculations about the possible imposition of the governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Saturday clarified the Centre has no intention of taking such a step against its rival PTI-led government in the province. His remarks came days after the recent federal cabinet meeting discussed the option of governor’s rule in KP. The huddle blamed KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s administration for using “state machinery to attack the Centre” during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) “do-or-die” protest in Islamabad, well-placed sources had told the media. Speaking to the media, Adviser to PM on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah on Thursday said: “The federal cabinet in its meeting discussed the option of imposing governor’s rule in KP but a consensus could not emerge and the matter has been deferred for further deliberations.” Addressing a press conference, the defence minister, while referring to Islamabad unrest, said that PTI tried to sink the country’s economy. “PTI launched a third onslaught on the Centre which was thwarted.” Rubbishing the PTI’s claim about causalities at the hands of law enforcers, the minister said: “Security personnel were martyred during the PTI’s protest but found no evidence of any citizen’s death.” A day earlier, PTI claimed: “At least 12 people were killed on the spot and the bodies were not handed over to the relatives.” Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram slammed the government for “denying the facts”. The government authorities said that five security personnel, three Rangers and two Punjab police personnel were martyred during the protests of the former ruling party. The defence minister said: “The KP government attacked Centre with [official] weapons and equipment.” He advised the provincial government to focus on the law and order situation in the province in general and in Parachinar in particular. The death toll from ongoing tribal clashes in District Kurram has risen to 124, as two more individuals lost their lives and 10 others were injured in fresh incidents of firing, sources told the media. The police confirmed that the latest spell of violence, now entering its tenth day, has claimed 124 lives in total and injured 178 others. Meanwhile, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, during his interaction with journalists, said that the PPP was not in favour of the governor’s rule in KP. He further said that if a “militant wing” of the political party is formed then the ban could be considered. The governor said that the embattled PTI should review its behaviour. Separately, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi has warned that ‘imposing a ban on PTI would be a significant mistake.’ Speaking to the media during his appearance at an anti-terrorism court in Lahore, Qureshi expressed concern over reports about the potential imposition of Governor’s rule in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), calling it tantamount to sowing division and hatred within the province. Qureshi stressed that banning PTI would not be beneficial for the country’s political landscape. He argued that all political parties should focus on the nation’s well-being, and ‘attempting to crush PTI would not be in the best interest of Pakistan’s politics.’ He further criticised the government for banning other political groups such as Tehreek-e-Labbaik and Pakistan Awami Tehreek, questioning the effectiveness of such measures. Qureshi also thanked the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Maulana Fazlur Rehman for rejecting the idea of banning PTI. He expressed his gratitude towards Mahmood Achakzai for opposing the move as well. Earlier on Friday, Senator Aimal Wali Khan, leader of the Awami National Party (ANP), expressed solidarity with anyone working for peace, emphasizing the deep grief within the Pashtun community over the recent Kurram incidents. He further stated that imposing Governor’s Rule in K-P would not resolve the ongoing crises in the region. Government officials were concerned the man could have misused his influence because the prince was under “considerable pressure” at the time, according to the ruling. British authorities believe the Chinese national, whose name wasn’t released, was working on behalf of the United Front Work Department, an arm of the Chinese Communist Party that is used to influence foreign entities. The government determined that the businessman “was in a position to generate relationships between senior Chinese officials and prominent U.K. figures which could be leveraged for political interference purposes by the Chinese State,” according to the tribunal’s decision. Although he didn’t make Britain his permanent home, the man told authorities that he spent one to two weeks a month in the country and considered it his “second home.” He was stopped while entering the U.K. on Nov. 6, 2021, and ordered to surrender his mobile phone and other digital devices on which authorities found a letter from a senior adviser to Andrew confirming that he was authorized to act on behalf of the prince in relation to potential partners and investors in China. The letter and other documents highlighted the strength of the relationship between Andrew, his adviser and the Chinese national. “I also hope that it is clear to you where you sit with my principal and indeed his family,” the adviser wrote. “You should never underestimate the strength of that relationship. Outside of his closest internal confidants, you sit at the very top of a tree that many, many people would like to be on.” The letter went on to describe how they had found a way to work around former private secretaries to the prince and other people who weren’t completely trusted. “Under your guidance, we found a way to get the relevant people unnoticed in and out of the house in Windsor,” the adviser wrote. NEW YORK – With the end of 2024 around the corner, you might be reflecting on financial goals for 2025. Whether you're saving to move out of your parents' house or pay off student loan debt, financial resolutions can help you stay motivated, said Courtney Alev, consumer advocate for Credit Karma. Recommended Videos “Entering a new year doesn’t erase all our financial challenges from the prior year," Alev said. “But it can really help to bring a fresh-start mentality to how you’re managing your finances.” If you’re planning to make financial resolutions for the new year, experts recommend that you start by evaluating the state of your finances in 2024. Then, set specific goals and make sure they're attainable for your lifestyle. Here are some tips from experts: Change your relationship with money Think about how you currently deal with finances — what's good, what's bad, and what can improve. “Let this be the year you change your relationship with money,” said Ashley Lapato, personal finance educator for YNAB, a budgeting app. If you feel like money is a chore, that there's shame surrounding the topic of money, or like you were born being “bad at money,” it's time to change that mentality, Lapato said. To adjust your approach, Lapato recommends viewing money goals as an opportunity to imagine your desired lifestyle in the future. She recommends asking questions like, “What do my 30s look like? What do my 40s look like?” and using money as a means to get there. Liz Young Thomas, head of SoFi Investment Strategy, added that it’s key you forgive yourself for past mistakes in order to move into the new year with motivation. Know your “why” When setting your financial resolutions for 2025, it's important to establish the “why” of each, said Matt Watson, CEO of Origin, a financial tracking app. “If you can attach the financial goal to a bigger life goal, it’s much more motivating and more likely you’ll continue on that path,” Watson said. Whether you're saving to buy a house, pay off credit card debt or take a summer vacation, being clear about the goal can keep you motivated. Watson also recommends using a tool to help you keep track of your finances, such as an app, spreadsheet, or website. Budget, budget, budget “After three years of inflation, your pay increases are likely still playing catch up to your monthly expenses, leaving you wondering where all the money is going," said Greg McBride, chief financial analyst at Bankrate. "Make that monthly budget for 2025 and resolve to track your spending against it throughout the year." McBride said that you may need to make adjustments during the year as certain expenses increase, which would require cutting back in other areas. “Calibrate your spending with your income, and any month you spend less than budgeted, transfer the difference into your savings account, ideally a high-yield savings account,” he said. Pay down outstanding debt “Interest rates aren’t likely to come down very fast, so you’re still going to have to put in the hard work of paying down debt, especially high-cost credit card debt, and do so with urgency,” McBride said. Start by taking stock of how much debt you have now relative to the beginning of the year. Hopefully you’ve made steady progress on paying it down, but, if you’ve gone in the other direction, McBride encourages making a game plan. That includes looking into 0% balance transfer offers. Take control of your credit card interest rate “You have more power over credit card interest rates than you think you do," said Matt Schulz, chief credit analyst at LendingTree. “Wielding that power is one of the best moves you can make in 2025.” A 0% balance transfer credit card is “a good weapon” in the fight against high card APRs, or annual percentage rates, he said. A low-interest personal loan is an option as well. You may simply be able to pick up the phone and ask for a lower interest rate. LendingTree found that a majority of people who did that in 2024 were successful, and the average reduction was more than 6 points. Set realistic, practical goals When planning for your financial resolutions, it’s important to consider how you’re going to make your goals sustainable for your lifestyle, said Credit Karma's Alev. “It really is a marathon, not a sprint,” Alev said. Alev recommends setting realistic, practical goals to make it easier to stick with them. For example, instead of planning to save thousands of dollars by the end of the year, start by saving $20 a paycheck. Even when your plans are achievable, there are times you'll get derailed. Maybe it’s an unexpected medical bill or an extraordinary life event. When these situations happen, Alev recommends trying not to feel defeated and working to get back on track without feeling guilty. Don't ‘flamingo' or bury your head in the sand “You can't manage what you can't see, so set a New Year’s resolution to check your credit score monthly in 2025," said Rikard Bandebo, chief economist at VantageScore. “Be sure to pay more than the minimum on your credit accounts, as that's one of the best ways to boost your credit score.” Bandebo also advises student loan borrowers to make all payments on time, as servicers will begin to report late payments starting in January, and missed payments will affect borrowers' credit scores. Automate savings, where possible Automated changes, like increasing workplace 401(k) plan contributions, setting up direct deposits from paychecks into dedicated savings accounts, and arranging for monthly transfers into an IRA and/or 529 college savings accounts all add up quickly, McBride said. Slow down Your financial goals can encompass more than just managing your money better — they can also be about keeping your money safe from scams . A golden rule to protect yourself from scams is to “slow down,” said Johan Gerber, executive vice president of security solutions at Mastercard. “You have to slow down and talk to other people if you’re not sure (whether or not) it’s scam,” said Gerber, who recommends building an accountability system with family to keep yourself and your loved ones secure. Scammers use urgency to make people fall for their tricks, so taking your time to make any financial decision can keep you from losing money. Focus on financial wellness Your financial goals don’t always have to be rooted in a dollar amount — they can also be about well-being. Finances are deeply connected with our mental health, and, to take care of our money, we also need to take care of ourselves. “I think that now more than any other year, your financial wellness should be a resolution," said Alejandra Rojas, personal finance expert and founder of The Money Mindset Hub, a mentoring platform for women entrepreneurs. "Your mental health with money should be a resolution.” To focus on your financial wellness, you can set one or two goals focusing on your relationship with money. Bridges didn’t just check off their holiday wishlists — he exceeded expectations, purchasing 55 gifts in total along with $1,000 NIKE gift cards for each family. He also hosted the families in a private suite during the Dec. 23 game against the Raptors, ensuring they experienced the joy of the season alongside him. For Bridges, this effort was deeply personal. Each family was led by a single mother, which resonated with him as someone raised by one himself. “It’s awesome just to be able to be in this position to do that,” Bridges said. “I grew up with a single mother, so I know how much those mothers go through. And I don’t even know to the full extent because there’s stuff my mom did that I probably don’t know to this day. “They work so much, and it’s not easy. A lot of them have multiple kids — my mom just had me — so I know it’s even tougher. So it’s good to be in this position to give back and show them that maybe not everyone sees it, but I see it. Meanwhile, streams of refugees crossed back into Syria from neighboring countries, hoping for a more peaceful future and looking for relatives who disappeared during Assad's brutal rule. The rebel alliance now in control of much of the country is led by a former senior al-Qaida militant who severed ties with the extremist group years ago and promises representative government and religious tolerance. The rebel command said Monday they would not tell women how to dress. Syrian citizens stand on a government forces tank that was left on a street Monday as they celebrate in Damascus, Syria. Israel said it carried out airstrikes on suspected chemical weapons sites and long-range rockets to keep them from falling into the hands of extremists. Israel also seized a buffer zone inside Syria after Syrian troops withdrew. Syrians wait to cross into Syria from Turkey on Monday at the Oncupinar border gate near the town of Kilis, southern Turkey. In northern Syria, Turkey said allied opposition forces seized the town of Manbij from Kurdish-led forces backed by the United States, a reminder that even after Assad's departure, the country remains split among armed groups that have fought in the past. The Kremlin said Russia granted political asylum to Assad, a decision made by President Vladimir Putin. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov declined to comment on Assad's specific whereabouts and said Putin did not plan to meet with him. Damascus was quiet Monday, with life slowly returning to normal, though most shops and public institutions were closed. In public squares, some people still celebrated. Civilian traffic resumed, but there was no public transport. Long lines formed in front of bakeries and other food stores. There was little sign of any security presence, though in some areas small groups of armed men were stationed in the streets. Syrian citizens celebrate Monday during the second day of the takeover of the city by the insurgents in Damascus, Syria. Across swathes of Syria, families are now waiting outside prisons, security offices and courts, hoping for news of loved ones who were imprisoned or who disappeared. Just north of Damascus in the feared Saydnaya military prison, women detainees, some with their children, screamed as rebels broke locks off their cell doors. Amnesty International and other groups say dozens of people were secretly executed every week in Saydnaya, and they estimate that up to 13,000 Syrians were killed between 2011 and 2016. "Don't be afraid," one rebel said as he ushered women from packed cells. "Bashar Assad has fallen!" In southern Turkey, Mustafa Sultan was among hundreds of Syrian refugees waiting at border crossings to head home. He was searching for his older brother, who was imprisoned under Assad. "I haven't seen him for 13 years," he said. "I am going to go see whether he's alive." Jalali, the prime minister, sought to project normalcy since Assad fled. "We are working so that the transitional period is quick and smooth," he told Sky News Arabia TV on Monday, saying the security situation already improved from the day before. Israeli soldiers sit on top of a tank Monday along the so-called Alpha Line that separates the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights from Syria, in the town of Majdal Shams. At the court of Justice in Damascus, which was stormed by the rebels to free detainees, Judge Khitam Haddad, an aide to the justice minister in the outgoing government, said Sunday that judges were ready to resume work quickly. "We want to give everyone their rights," Haddad said outside the courthouse. "We want to build a new Syria and to keep the work, but with new methods." But a U.N. official said some government services were paralyzed as worried state employees stayed home. The public sector "has just come to a complete and abrupt halt," said U.N. Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Syria Adam Abdelmoula, noting, for example, that an aid flight carrying urgently needed medical supplies was put on hold after aviation employees abandoned their jobs. "This is a country that has had one government for 53 years and then suddenly all of those who have been demonized by the public media are now in charge in the nation's capital," Abdelmoula told The Associated Press. "I think it will take a couple of days and a lot of assurance on the part of the armed groups for these people to return to work again." Han’s impeachment means he will be stripped of the powers and duties of the president until the Constitutional Court decides whether to dismiss or reinstate him. The court is already reviewing whether to uphold Yoon’s earlier impeachment. The impeachments of the country’s top two officials worsened its political turmoil, deepened economic uncertainties and hurt its international image. The single-chamber National Assembly passed Han’s impeachment motion with a 192-0 vote. Lawmakers with the governing People Power Party boycotted the vote and surrounded the podium where assembly Speaker Woo Won Shik was seated, shouting that the vote was invalid and demanding Woo’s resignation. No violence or injuries were reported. The PPP lawmakers protested after Woo called for a vote on Han’s impeachment motion after announcing its passage required a simple majority in the 300-member assembly, not a two-thirds majority as claimed by the PPP. In a statement, Han said his impeachment was regrettable but added that he respects the assembly’s decision and will suspend his duties to “not add to additional confusion and uncertainty.” He said he will wait for “a swift, wise decision” by the Constitutional Court. Later Friday, Choi’s office said he instructed the military to boost its readiness to help prevent North Korea from miscalculating the situation and launching provocations. The bus had over 45 passengers and it fell into Lasara drain at Jeewan Singhwala village, officials said. The accident occurred when the bus was en route to Bathinda from Talwandi Sabo. Locals rushed to the spot immediately to help the passengers, they said, adding that eight people lost their lives. Police and district administration also launched a rescue operation and took the injured to a hospital. A team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) also reached the spot to provide assistance, they added. Expressing condolences, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a post on X “Saddened by the loss of lives in the bus accident in Bathinda, Punjab. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.” He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. According to officials, the weather was inclement in the area however the exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. Bathinda Deputy Commissioner Showkat Ahmad Parray, who reached the spot to supervise the rescue operation, said medical teams and ambulances were rushed to the spot.

China sanctioned seven companies on Friday in response to the U.S. recently announcing new military sales and aid to Taiwan. The seven companies being sanctioned are Insitu Inc., Hudson Technologies Co., Saronic Technologies, Inc., Oceaneering International Inc., Raytheon Canada, Raytheon Australia and Aerkomm Inc., according to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The sanctions were issued in retaliation to the Biden-Harris administration’s approval of up to $571 million in defense support for Taiwan on Dec. 20. The Defense Department also announced on Dec. 20 the approval of two military sales totaling $295 million. Sinn Fein ‘ignored role of 3,000 deaths in damaging community relations’

OROVILLE, Calif. -- A suspected gunman is dead and two students were taken to the hospital after a shooting Wednesday at a Northern California elementary school, according to authorities. Deputies were "on scene of an active incident involving a shooting" at Feather River School of Seventh-Day Adventists in Palermo, the Butte County Sheriff's Office said on the social platform X. Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said when deputies arrived at the school they found a man believed to be the shooter with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. That man is dead. The sheriff's office says deputies also found two students with gunshot wounds who were taken to the hospital but their condition is unknown at this time. Authorities say students are being transported to Oroville Church of the Nazarene where parents can reunite with their children. According to the school website, Feather River Adventist School has 33 students enrolled. The school is located roughly 10 miles south of Oroville. Palermo - home to about 5,500 people - is about 65 miles (104 km) north of Sacramento. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

In Friday's opener, van de Zandschulp was up a set and just a point away from leading 5-2 in the second when Altmaier began playing more aggressively and interacting more with the German fans, yelling and throwing uppercuts or raising his arms after key points. In the tiebreaker, Altmaier managed to save five match points before converting his own fourth set point to extend the contest. But van de Zandschulp, who upset four-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz at the U.S. Open, quickly moved out front in the final set, even if he eventually needed five more match points in the last game before serving it out. "At some point, I didn't know what to do any more on the match points," van de Zandschulp said. "I had the toughest match of my life on Tuesday [against Nadal] so everything that comes next is maybe a little bit easier."
